Yacht Club de Monaco
Founded in 1953 by HSH Prince Rainier and presided over by HSH Prince Sovereign Albert II since 1984, the Yacht Club de Monaco brings together more than 1200 members from 60 nationalities. Many of the world’s most prestigious private yachts fly the Yacht Club de Monaco’s burgee, testimony to its unique position on the international yachting scene.
Yacht Club de Monaco has long been at the forefront of innovation in 2014 pioneered the inaugural Solar 1 Monte-Carlo Cup, as part of their vision links to lead in environmental protection. The goal of the event is to become a testing ground for advances in eco-friendly technology. Fielding 12 international teams from 3 continents, racing was in slalom, fleet and sprint divisions in 3 different classes: Challenge A Class, Open Class and the foiling V20 Class, which reaches speeds of nearly 30 knots. Each class is designed to a different specification, with the futuristic boats from the drawing boards of undergraduates and professionals.
